Academy member Nicolae Cajal:
A very special initiative

“We gathered here, at the Jewish Theater, a building that was erected by Iuliu Barasch to shelter a hospital for children and which later became a theater house. The “Baraseum” had an important contribution to strengthening dignity and to the spiritual resistance of the Jewish population in Romania during the years of the racial legislation (1940-1944). The “architect” of the “Realitatea Evreiasca” (“The Jewish Reality”) magazine, Dorel Dorian, had this very special initiative of editing the six “Cultural Notebooks” – a genuine act of culture, of great importance for the Jewish life and the cultural life of the Romanian society. The FJCR wishes to thank writer Dorel Dorian and the team who created these “Notebooks”.
